The county was organized in 1864 out of Nez Perce County, but was not organized until 1881. The County Clerk has birth and death records from 1907 to 1912, marriage, divorce, probate and civil court records from 1881. The recorder maintains all land records since county inception. Marriage licenses were not required in Idaho until 11 March 1895.

Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0036 The Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics maintains birth and death records filed from July 1911 to the present, and marriage and divorce records filed from May 1947 to the present. Some counties may have older birth, death, marriage, or divorce records in their files, but county files contain only records of vital events that occurred in that county. |
Idaho Digital Archives | Originally a part of Oregon Territory and then of Washington Territory, Idaho became a territory itself on March 4, 1863. Only eighteen years later, a group of early settlers organized the Historical Society of Idaho Pioneers. They wished to preserve their own history, and they wanted their descendants and future residents of Idaho to understand how this place had come to be. |

Idaho Historical Society | On July 3, 1890, Idaho achieved statehood. Seventeen years later, the Ninth Legislature established the Idaho State Historical Society as a state agency. Its home for nearly fifty years was in a basement room in the Capitol. |
Idaho Genealogical Society | All members of Idaho Genealogical Society and persons interested in their family history are welcome to attend. The Idaho Genealogical Society meets 11 months out of the year. December is our holiday month. Meetings are held at noon on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Idaho Archives located at 2205 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise, Idaho 83712-8250. |
